you don't get to give me nicknames :: penny

"No."

‍‌‎‏ "C'mon, Penn, they need a ride," Han pleads as jump down from inside the Falcon,  "And they're payin' us 17,000. We could use that, and you know it."

I frown at him. Before I can say anything else I hear someone say,

"What a piece of junk!"

Han and I both climb out of the ship to find Chewie leading two men and two droids towards the Falcon.

"Hey!" I defend quietly while Han walks towards them.

"She'll make point five beyond the speed of light," he begins. "She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid. I've added some special modifications myself." He turns to me as I step out of the ship a few moments after him. "With the help of Penny here, of course."

I smile at our passengers and Han introduces me.

"Fellas, this is Penny. We're a little rushed, so if you'll hurry aboard we'll get out of here, and you can do the full introduction later."

We rush back on the ship and I mumble a, "I can't  believe we're giving them a ride."

"Oh, shut up, Penn, it's 17,000 units," Han chuckles, "Go help 'em strap in. Chewie, get us out of here!"

"You owe me big time for this, Hannie Boy."

"I don't think we were properly introduced," A voice says from behind me while I pour myself and Han two mugs of coffee.

I turn around and find the younger stranger Han offered a ride to. He's fairly short compared to some other men I've met, and he has blond hair that hangs over his forehead.

"You seemed to have met old Ben earlier, but we rushed out of there so fast, there was barely any time for you and me." His eyes are a bright blue, and they (not so subtly) look me up and down as he says, "I'm Luke. Skywalker." I don't think this kid's ever talked to a girl before.

"Penny," I say, moving around him and towards the cockpit.

"It's a pretty name," he says from behind me. Great, he's following me. "I heard Han call you Penn before, do you prefer to go by that?"

I turn around, something Luke obviously wasn't expecting me to do. "Listen, Luke,-" He doesn't seem to like the way I said his name. "You're just some guy we're giving a ride to. Once we get to the Alderaan, we're dropping you off, and we're never gonna see each other again. So personally, I'd prefer if you just stick with Penny, because you don't get to give me nicknames."

When I turn back around, I don't hear his footsteps following me.

"That was a bit harsh, Penn," Han says as I hand him his mug and sit down in the pilot's chair next to him.

"You heard all that?" I mumble, taking a sip from my cup.

"Don't be so hard on him. He doesn't seem all that bright."

"Han," I chuckle, lightly smacking his arm.

He smiles and sets his mug down. "Just be nicer to him. He's only gonna be here for a little bit and then the only one following you around the ship will be Chewie asking you to play Dejarik with him."

"Everywhere I turn, he's right there."

"Maybe he's got a crush on you," Han grins.

 "I'll kill you."

There's a knock on my door and then I hear Luke say, "We're coming up on Alderaan, Han told me to come and get you."

"What the?" Han says as we step in. "Aw, we've come out of hyperspace into a meteor shower. Some kind of asteroid collision. It's not on any of the charts."

Chewie flips off several controls and seems very calm compared to Han.

 "What's going on?" Luke asks.

"Our position is correct," Han begins, "Except..."

 "No Alderaan," I finish.

"What do you mean?" The blond next to me asks frantically, "Where is it?"

"That's what I'm trying to tell you, kid. It ain't there. It's been totally blown away."

"What? How?" Luke and I say at the same time.

"Destroyed," Ben says walking in behind us, "by the Empire."

A signal on the control panel begins to flash and a muffled alarm hums.

 "Another ship?" I mumble.

"Maybe they know what happened," Luke says hopefully.

 "It's an Imperial Fighter."

Chewie barks and an explosion bursts outside the window, shaking the ship violently. I grab Han's seat to keep my balance, but instead of a chair, Luke holds on to me.

Gross.

A tiny Imperial fighter races past the window when Luke lets go of me. "It followed us!" He says.

"No," I shake my head. "It's a short-range fighter. But there aren't' many bases around here-"

"So where the hell did it come from?" Han interrupts.

"It sure is leaving in a big hurry. If they identify us..." Luke sets his hands on my shoulder and I'm too focused on what's going down to move away. "...we're in big trouble."

"Not if we can help it," Han assures. "Chewie...jam it's transmissions."

Ben tells him to let it go, that it's out of range, but Han already has his mind set. He speeds after it, and in the distance, one of the stars becomes brighter than before. The tiny ship is heading for it.

Ben narrows his eyes. "A fighter that size couldn't get this deep into space on its own."

"It must've gotten lost," Luke says, "been part of a convoy or something." I turn to look at him. His brow is furrowed, and he tucks a strand of hair behind his ear, still focused on Han racing after the small ship. "Look at him," he says, snapping me out of whatever trance I was caught in. "He's headed for that small moon."

I turn back when Han says, "I think I can get him before he gets there...he's almost in range."

 "That's no moon! That's a space station!"

Han shakes his head. "It's too big to be a space station."

"I have a very bad feeling about this..." Luke frowns. I didn't even notice his hand left my shoulder until I feel his fingers brush against mine.

"Yeah, I think your right. Chewie," Han barks "lock in the auxiliary power."

The falcon shudders and the other small ship accelerates towards the ginormous battle station.

"Han...?" I begin, but Luke beats me to asking.

"Why are we still moving towards it?"

"We're caught in a tractor beam! It's pulling us in!"

I smack Han in the back of the head and he winces in pain. "What the hell was that for?" He yells.

"Get us out of here!" I reply.

"There's gotta be something you can do!" I turn to look at Luke when he speaks and he and I lock eyes. Jesus, they're so blue. Disgusting.

"There's nothin' I can do about it, kid. I'm in full power. I'm gonna have to shut down. But they're not gonna get me without a fight!"

I smack him in the back of the head again.

"Quit doing that! What was it for this time?"

 "You're an idiot, Han Solo."

Ben sets his hand on Han's shoulder and Luke and I look towards him. "You can't win," he says, "but there are alternatives to fighting."

----

this is literally all just original movie stuff and not a lot of fic, so i'm sorry about that, but once the story gets going hopefully it's gonna stray a little bit away from the plot

also lmao there's so many repeated words i'm so sorry, i don't have the flow for all of this going yet
